Process walkthroughs when finance already runs on schedules
Financial auditing guidance for process walkthroughs in automated finance operations — the craft Interactivity teaches when the “who clicks Approve” story is no longer enough.
What changed
Classic walkthroughs assumed a person could demonstrate each step. Automated finance operations insert robots, rules engines, and overnight jobs between human decisions. The risk did not disappear — it moved into thresholds, retries, and exception queues that reviewers cannot see in a conference-room demo.
What we mean by a walkthrough here
We treat a walkthrough as an observed path through initiation, processing, recording, and reporting — including branches the system takes without a person present. Documentation must name systems, owners, break conditions, and the artifacts that prove you saw them.
Where teams stumble
Happy-path only narratives
Files describe the invoice that matched cleanly and skip the queue that holds half the volume on busy weeks.
Unclear ownership of rules
Process owners explain screens; automation stewards explain jobs — and neither owns the threshold change log in the evidence pack.
Screenshots without context
Images without job IDs, timestamps, or user roles force reviewers to guess whether the observation was live.
How Interactivity trains the skill
Our studios force observation, dual interviews, exception sampling, and a finale pack under time pressure. Start with the flagship course or skim the method on the home page.
